REDRAY Playback on Sony 55″ 4K XBR55X900A (Early Release Shipping Unit)
Here, we test the REDRAY player from RED DIGITAL CINEMA on Sony’s 55″ 4K XBR55X900A display. Sony typically has been demoing these with USB sticks loaded with very limited content. (video mixed with Ken Burns style UHD still montages). When connected to REDRAY, the images were extremely pleasing. (Especially those from the RED 800 REEL). It took some adjustments of color, brightness, and sharpness to get optimal results, but the difference between that and upressed 1080p is no contest. No issues with sync or loss of signal…
Like everyone says, not crazy about the built in speakers. The sound is decent, I just would rather not have them attached or the option to disconnect them. I’m looking forward to prices dropping soon on 4K panels and to see what Samsung, Asus, and Apple have in store. The next few months are going to be very interesting…
